Lung cancer remains the leading cause of cancer death in the U.S. for both men and women. An estimated 229,000 Americans will be diagnosed in 2026, and nearly 125,000 will not survive. Despite these numbers, lung cancer remains significantly underfunded relative to the lives it takes.

In Pennsylvania, lung cancer hits close to home

  • PA’s lung cancer incidence rate (56.9 per 100,000) is higher than the national average

  • Nearly 40% of radon test results in PA are at or above the EPA’s recommended action level

  • Only about 1 in 5 lung cancer cases in Pennsylvania are caught at an early stage, when treatment is most effective

  • Pennsylvania ranks 9th in the nation for lung cancer survival — progress is happening, but there is more work to do

Impact: Where Your Support Goes

Since 2019, Libby’s Lungs has raised over $400,000 for lung cancer research and patient support. Every dollar raised at this event is directed toward improving outcomes and quality of life for those currently fighting this disease:

  • 80% to Research: Funding lung cancer research at The University of Pittsburgh and UPMC Hillman Cancer Center, including Dr. Laura Stabile’s relentless work in the field of lung cancer.

  • 20% to Patient Support: Providing direct services such as lodging through Family House, parking at Hillman, and support groups through Cancer Bridges.
